અથ અષ્ટાદશસ્સર્ગઃ

શ્લો||તથા વિપ્રેક્ષમાનસ્ય વનં પુષ્પિત પાદપં|
વિચિન્વતશ્ચ વૈદેહીં કિંચિત્ શેષા નિશાઽભવત્||1||

સ|| પુષ્પિત પાદપં વિપ્રેક્ષમાનસ્ય વૈદેહીં વિચિન્વતઃ ચ તથા નિશા કિંચિત્ શેષા અભવત્ |

While seeing those trees laden with flowers and searching for Sita, very little of the night was left.

શ્લો||ષડઙ્ગવેદવિદુષાં ક્રતુપ્રવરયાજિનાં|
શુશ્રાવ બ્રહ્મઘોષાંશ્ચ વિરાત્રે બ્રહ્મરક્ષસામ્||2||
અથમઙ્ગળવાદિત્રૈઃ શબ્દૈઃ શ્રોત્રમનોહરૈઃ|
પ્રાબુધ્યત મહાબાહુઃ દશગ્રીવો મહાબલઃ||3||

સ|| વિરાત્રે સઃ ષડંગવેદવિદુષાં ક્રતુપ્રવરયાજિનાં બ્રહ્મ રક્ષસામ્ બ્રહ્મઘોષાં ચ શુશ્રાવ|| અથ મહાબાહુઃ મહાબલઃ દશગ્રીવઃ શ્રુતિમનોહરઃ મંગળવાદિત્ર શબ્દૈઃ પ્રાબુધ્યત ||

At the end of the night, he heard sound of Vedas from those Brahmins among Rakshasas who are experts in the Vedas and the six auxiliary parts there of and who are also experts on performing sacrificial ceremonies. Then the powerful ten headed one with powerful arms was awakened by the delightful sounds of auspicious musical instruments.

શ્લો||વિબુધ્યતુ યથાકાલં રાક્ષસેન્દ્રઃ પ્રતાપવાન્|
સ્રસ્તમાલ્યામ્બરધરો વૈદેહીમ્ અન્વચિન્તયત્||4||
ભૃશં નિયુક્તસ્તસ્યાં ચ મદનેન મદોત્કટાઃ|
ન સ તં રાક્ષસં કામં શશાકાત્મનિ ગૂહિતમ્||5||

સ|| પ્રતાપવાન્ રાક્ષસેન્દ્રઃ યથાકાલં વિબુધ્ય સ્રસ્તમાલ્યાંબરધરઃ વૈદેહીં અન્વચિંતયત્ || તસ્યાં મદનેન ભૃશમ્ નિયુક્તઃ મદોત્કટઃ સઃ રાક્ષસઃ તં કામંઆત્મનિ ગુહિતું ન શશાક||

The valorous king of Rakshasas waking up as per time with disarranged garlands and garments thought about Vaidehi. Gripped on account of his exceedingly high passion for her and overwhelmed with that passion, the Rakshasa could not hide his passion within himself.

શ્લો||સ સર્વાભરણૈર્યુક્તો બિભ્રત્ શ્રિયમનુત્તમાં|
તાં નગૈર્બહુભિ ર્જુષ્ટાં સર્વપુષ્પફલોપગૈઃ||6||
વૃતાં પુષ્કરિણીભિશ્ચનાનાપુષ્પોપશોભિતામ્|
સદામદૈશ્ચ વિહગૈઃ વિચિત્રાં પરમાદ્ભુતમ્||7||

સ||સઃ સર્વાભરણયુક્તઃ અનુત્તમામ્ શ્રિયં બિભ્રત્ સર્વપુષ્પફલોપભૈઃ બહુભિઃ નગૈઃ જુષ્ટામ્ તાં||પુષ્કરણીભિઃ વૃત્તાં નાનાપુષ્પોપશોભિતામ્ સદા મદૈશ્ચ વિહગૈઃ વિચિત્રાં પરમાદ્ભુતમ્||

Adorned with all excellent ornaments glowing with splendor, he went to (that grove) full of trees filled with all kinds of flowers and fruits. The grove was full of ponds shining with variety of flowers as also with colorful birds which are excited and looked wonderful.

શ્લો||ઈહામૃગૈશ્ચ વિવિધૈર્જુષ્ટાં દૃષ્ટિમનોહરૈઃ|
વીથીઃ સંપ્રેક્ષમાણશ્ચ મણિકાઞ્ચનતોરણાઃ||8||
નાનામૃગ ગણાકીર્ણમ્ ફલૈઃ પ્રપતિતૈર્વૃતામ્|
અશોકવનિકામેવ પ્રાવિશત્ સંતતદ્રુમામ્||9||

સ|| મણિકાંચન તોરણાઃ દૃષ્ટિમનોહરૈઃ વીથીઃ સંપ્રેક્ષમાણઃ ચ વિવિધૈઃ ઇહામૃગૈઃ ચ જુષ્ટાં નાનામૃગગણાકીર્ણં પ્રપિતૈઃ ફલૈઃ વૃતાં સંતતદ્રુમામ્ અશોકવનિકાં એવ પ્રાવિશત્ ||

He entered the Ashoka grove observing path ways, gateways ornamented with gold and gems,as well as the pleasant to look at the grove filled with trees, occupied by several wolves, filled with variety of herds of animals , with fruits fallen from the trees.

મહેન્દ્રમિવ પૌલસ્ત્યં દેવગંધર્વયોષિતઃ||10||
દીપિકાઃ કાઞ્ચનીઃ કાશ્ચિત્ જગૃહુઃ તત્ર યોષિતઃ|
વાલવ્યજનહસ્તાશ્ચ તાલવૃન્તાનિ ચાપરાઃ||11||
કાઞ્ચનૈરપિ ભૃંગારૈઃ જહ્રુઃ સલિલમગ્રતઃ||
મણ્ડલાગ્રાન્ બૃસીંચૈવ ગૃહ્યાઽન્યાઃ પૃષ્ઠતો યયુઃ||12||
કાચિત્ રત્નમયીં સ્થાલીં પૂર્ણાં પાનસ્ય ભામિની|
દક્ષિણા દક્ષિણેનૈવ તદા જગ્રાહ પાણિના||13||

સ||વ્રજન્તં તં પૌલસ્ત્યં શતમાત્રં અંગનાઃ મહેંદ્રં દેવગંધર્વયોષિતાઃ ઇવ અનુવ્રજત્|| તત્ર કાશ્ચિત્ યોષિતઃ કાંચનીઃ દીપિકાઃ જગૃહુ| અપરાઃ તાલવૃંતાનિ જગૃહુ| (અપરાઃ) વ્યાલવ્યજન હસ્તાઃ ચ||અગ્રતઃ કાંચનૈઃ ભૃંગારૈઃ સલિલં જહૃઃ |અન્યાઃ મંડલાગ્રાઃ બૃસીઃ ચ અપિ ગૃહ્ય પૃષ્ટતઃ યયુઃ || કાચિત્ દક્ષિણા ભામિની રત્નમયીં પૂર્ણં પાનસ્ય સ્થલીં દક્ષિણેનૈવ પાણિના જગ્રાહ||

That wandering son of Pulastya was followed by hundred women, like Indra was followed by Deva Gandharva women. There some women carried golden lamps. Others carried palm leaf fans. Some others held fans made of hair from Yak's tail. Some carried water in golden picthers in the front. Others in the back carried circular seats as they moved. One courteous women carried a gem studded jar filled with wine in her right hand only.

શ્લો||રાજહંસ પ્રતીકાશં છત્રં પૂર્ણશશિપ્રભમ્|
સૌવર્ણદણ્ડમપરા ગૃહીત્વા પૃષ્ઠતો યયૌ||14||

સ|| અપરા રાજહંસ પ્રતીકાશં પૂર્ણશશિપ્રભં સૌવર્ણદંડં છત્રં ગૃહીત્વા પૃષ્ટતઃ યયૌ||

Another carried a umbrella with golden handle resembling a royal swan and bright like a full moon.

શ્લો||નિદ્રામદ પરીતાક્ષ્યો રાવણસ્યોત્તમાઃ સ્ત્રિયઃ|
અનુજગ્મુઃ પતિં વીરં ઘનં વિદ્યુલ્લતાઇવ||15||
વ્યાવિદ્ધહારકેયૂરાઃ સમા મૃદિતવર્ણકાઃ|
સમાગળિત કેશાન્તાઃ સસ્વેદ વદનાસ્તથા||16||

સ|| નિદ્રા મદ પરીતાક્ષ્યઃ રાવણસ્ય ઉત્તમાઃ સ્ત્રિયઃ વિદ્યુલ્લતાઃ ઘનમિવ વીરં પતિં અનુજગ્મુઃ|| વ્યાવિદ્ધહારકેયૂરાઃ સમામૃદિતવર્ણિકાઃ સમાગલિત કેશાંતાઃ તથા સસ્વેદ વદનાઃ (તં રાવણં અનુજગ્મુઃ)

With eyes dizzy with intoxication and sleep, Ravana's wives followed the heroic husband, like lightning followed the dark clouds. With disarrayed necklaces , and smudged sandal paste and other unguents on the body, loosened hair, also with sweat on their faces (his wives followed him)

શ્લો||ઘૂર્ણંત્યો મદશેષેણ નિદ્રયા ચ શુભાનનાઃ|
સ્વેદક્લિષ્ટાઙ્ગ કુસુમાઃ સુમાલ્યાકુલમૂર્થજાઃ||17||
પ્રયાન્તં નૈરૃતપતિં નાર્યો મદિરલોચનાઃ|
બહુમાનાચ્ચ કામાચ્ચ પ્રિયા ભાર્યા સ્તમન્વયુઃ||18||

સ|| મદશેષેણ નિદ્રયા ચ ઘૂર્ણન્ત્યઃ સ્વેદક્લિષ્ટાંગ કુસુમાઃ સુમાલ્યાકુલમૂર્ધજાઃ શુભાનનાઃ (તં તાવણં અનુજગ્મુઃ)||મદિરલોચનાઃ પ્રિયાઃ ભાર્યાઃ નાર્યાઃ બહુમાનાચ્ચ કામાચ્ચ પ્યાંતં તં નૈઋતપતિં અન્વયુઃ||

The wives of Ravana adorned with beautiful flowers in their hair followed him, with garlands of wilted flowers due to sweat from their limbs. They were moving to and from being dizzy with left over intoxication as well as due to left over sleep. The drunken eyed dear wives, and other ladies followed the king of Rakshasas due to high regards and due to passion.

શ્લો||સ ચ કામપરાધીનઃ પતિ સ્તાસાં મહાબલઃ|
સીતાસક્ત મના મમ્દો મદાઞ્ચિતગતિ ર્બભૌ||19||
તતઃ કાઞ્ચીનિનાદં ચ નૂપુરાણાં નિસ્સ્વનમ્|
શુશ્રાવ પરમસ્ત્રીણાં સ કપિર્મારુતાત્મજઃ||20||

સ|| તાસાં પતિઃ મહાબલઃ કામપરાધીનઃ સીતાસક્તમનાઃ સઃ ચ મંદઃ મદાંચિતગતિઃ બભૌ|| તતઃ મારુતાત્મજઃ સઃ કપિઃ પરમસ્ત્રીણાં કાંચીનિનાદં નૂપુરાણાં ચ નિઃસ્વનં શુશ્રાવ||

Their husband, the powerful and dull Ravana who is under the control of passion, with a mind lost on Sita and walked slowly .Then the son of wind god that Vanara heard the sounds of golden girdles and small bells of their anklets.

શ્લો|| તં ચા પ્રતિમકર્માણં અચિન્ત્યબલપૌરુષમ્|
દ્વારદેશમનુપ્રાપ્તં દદર્શ હનુમાન્ કપિઃ||21||
દીપિકાભિરનેકાભિઃ સમન્તાદવભાસિતમ્|
ગન્ધતૈલાવસિક્તાભિઃ ધ્રિયમાણાભિરગ્રતઃ||22||
કામદર્પમદૈર્યુતં જિહ્મતામ્રાયતેક્ષણમ્|
સમક્ષમિવ કંદર્પં અપવિદ્ધશરાસનમ્||23||
મથિતામૃતફેનાભ મરજો વસ્ત્રમુત્તમમ્|
સલીલ મનુકર્ષંતં વિમુક્તં સક્ત મંગદે ||24||

સ|| કપિઃ હનુમાન્ અપ્રતિમકર્મણાં દ્વારદેશં અનુપ્રાપ્તં તં અચિન્ત્યબલપૌરુષમ્ ( રાવણં) ચ દદર્શ|| ગન્ધતૈલાવસિક્તાભિઃ અગ્રતઃ ધ્રિયમાણાભિઃ અનેકાભિઃ દીપિકાભિઃ સમન્તાત્ અવભાસિતમ્|| કામદર્પમદૈઃ યુક્તં જિહ્મતામ્રાયતેક્ષણમ્ અપવિદ્ઢશરાસનમ્ સમક્ષં કંદર્પં ઇવ||મથિતામૃતફેનાભં અરજઃ વિમુક્તં અંગદે સક્તં ઉત્તમં વસ્ત્રં સલીલં અનુકર્ષંતં (તં દદર્શ)||

The Vanara Hanuman , who performed incomparable deeds saw the hero unimaginable strength and valor at the entrance. He (Ravana) was shining in the light of the fragrant oil lamps held in the front by many every where. Endowed with lust pride and intoxication, possessed of long hot red eyes with his quiver and arrows set aside, he looked like Manmatha himself. Without any dust, looking like foam of the churned nectar, the upper cloth which was stuck in his armlet was sportively dragged.

શ્લો|| તં પત્રવિટપે લીનઃ પત્ત્રપુષ્પઘનાવૃતઃ|
સમીપમિવ સંક્રાન્તં નિધ્યાતુ મુપચક્રમે||25||
અવેક્ષમાણસ્તુ તતો દદર્શ કપિકુઙ્જરઃ |
રૂપયૌવનસંપન્ના રાવણસ્ય વરસ્ત્રિયઃ||26||

સ||પત્રવિટપે લીનઃ પત્રપુષ્પઘનાવૃતઃ સમીપં સક્રાંતં મિવ તં નિધ્યાતું ઉપચક્રમે|| તતઃ કપિકુંજરઃ અવેક્ષમાણઃ રાવણસ્ય રૂપયૌવનસંપન્નાઃ રાવણસ્ય વરસ્ત્રિયઃ દદર્શ||

Hidden in the leaves on the branch covered with leaves and flowers Hanuman scaned the identity of the one coming nearer. Then the best of Vanaras looking carefully saw the Ravana's chief women who are young and beautiful.

શ્લો|| તાભિઃ પરિવૃતો રાજા સુરૂપાભિર્મહાયશાઃ|
તન્મૃગદ્વિજસંઘુષ્ટં પ્રવિષ્ટઃ પ્રમદાવનમ્||27||
ક્ષીબો વિચિત્રાભરણઃ શંઙ્કુકર્ણો મહાબલઃ|
તેન વિશ્રવસઃ પુત્ત્રઃ સદૃષ્ટો રાક્ષસાધિપઃ||28||
વૃતઃ પરમનારીભિઃ તારાભિરિવ ચન્દ્રમાઃ|
તં દદર્શ મહાતેજાઃ તેજોવન્તં મહાકપિઃ||29||

સ|| મહાયશાઃ રાજા સુરૂપાભિઃ તાભિઃ પરિવૃતઃ મૃગદ્વિજસંઘુષ્ટં તત્ પ્રમદાવનં પ્રવિષ્ટઃ|| વિશ્રવસઃ પુત્રઃ ક્ષીબઃ વિચિત્રાભરણઃ શંકુકર્ણઃ મહાબલઃ રાક્ષસાધિપઃ સઃ તેન દૃષ્ટઃ|| પરમનારીભિઃ વૃતઃ તારાભિઃ (વૃતઃ) ચંદ્રમા ઇવ તેજોવંતં તં મહાતેજાઃ મહાકપિઃ તં તેજોવંતં દદર્શ||

The famous king surrounded by beautiful charming women entered the grove meant for women which echoed with sounds of beasts and birds. The very powerful son of Visravasa, the king of Rakshasa excited by drinking, wearing wonderful ornaments, with long tapering ears, was seen by him. Surrounded by best of women, looking like the Moon surrounded by stars, the brilliant Hanuman saw that splendid king of Rakshasas.

શ્લો|| રાવણોઽયં મહાબાહુઃ ઇતિ સંચિત્ય વાનરઃ|
અવપ્લુતો મહાતેજા હનુમાન્ મારુતાત્મજઃ||30||
સ તથા‍પ્યુગ્રતેજાઃ સન્નિર્ધૂતસ્તસ્ય તેજસા|
પત્રગુહ્યાન્તરે સક્તો હાનુમાન્ સંવૃતોઽભવત્||31||

સ|| મારુતાત્મજઃવાનરઃ મહાતેજાઃ હનુમાન્ અયં મહાબાહુઃ રાવણ ઇતિ સંચિત્ય અવપ્લુતઃ ||તથા ઉગ્રતેજાઃ સઃ હનુમાન્ તસ્ય તેજસા નિર્ધૂતઃ પત્રગુહ્યાંતરે સક્તઃ સંવૃતઃ અભવત્||

The powerful Hanuman, the son of wind god , thinking that "this one of strong arms is Ravana" came down. Possessed of extraordinary strength Hanuman taken aback by the might of Ravana concealed deep in the leaves remained there.

શ્લો|| સ તાં અસિતકેશાંતાં સુશ્રોણીં સંહતસ્તનીમ્|
દિદૃક્ષુ રસિતાપાંગાં ઉપાવર્તત રાવણઃ||32||

સ|| તં અસિતકેશાંતં સુશ્રોણિં સંહતરત્નીં અસિતાપાંગાં દિદ્રુક્ષુઃ સઃ રાવણઃ ઉપાવર્તત||

To look at the dark haired lady , with beautiful hips, plump breasts and dark side glances that Ravana returned to the Ashoka grove.
